Orangeville Bears Junior Girls Program Details

Orangeville Bears Junior Girls team will consist of Grade 9 and 10 girls only. Athletes are not required to attend the same academic school to be a member of this team. 12 roster spots are available.

1st Tryout: Wed, August 31st, 7-9pm at Athlete Institute
2nd Tryout: Thur, Sept 8th, 7-9pm at Athlete Institute

Program Info:

  • Season runs Sept 12 to Feb 5th
  • 5 competition weekends in OBA Junior Girls Development League, concluding with Championship weekend
  • 2 practices per week
  • Strength & conditioning program - In-person and through app
  • Academic eligibility & pathway education
  • Guest coaches - Post-secondary coaches and players
  • Additional Orangeville Prep skill sessions can be attended at a reduced rate of 25% off

Coaching Staff:

Head Coach – Greg Firth

Greg Firth has been involved with coaching basketball and youth sports for over 20 years. Currently, he is a teacher at St. Michael S.S. in Bolton and is the Department Head of Guidance and Academic resource. Greg has coached both Jr. and Sr. Girls' Basketball teams at Cardinal Leger and St. Edmund Campion, winning ROPSAA and participating in OFSAA numerous times. Greg is an NCCP trained basketball coach.  He has coached the South Simcoe region for the OBA and was the Head Coach for the Gold medal, U14 girls at the 2022 Ontario Summer Games.  Greg has been an active member in the Orangeville basketball community, not only as a coach, but as a board member and technical director of the Orangeville Hawks.  Greg has developed GoFurther Sports and Education, where he runs basketball clinics, camps and educational workshops for student-athletes.

Assistant Coach – Evaldas Zabas

Evaldas "Ev" Zabas is originally from Lithuania, where he fell in love with the sport of basketball. He moved to Canada when I was 15 and attended North York high school and earned a full scholarship to St. Michael’s College School. Ev was recruited to finish his grade 12 year at the National Elite Development Academy in Hamilton. He was then chosen to play on the National U20 Lithuanian team. Shortly after, Ev started his professional basketball career of 13 years, playing all across Europe. Ev has been a Basketball Skills & Development Coach at Athlete Institute since 2020.
